Duke of Edinburgh Award - Keel Boat Sailing
Published 13:01 on 4 Aug 2021
Cobnor Activities Centre trust has secured funding to support groups of young people from West Sussex, Hampshire and Portsmouth who receive a means tested benefit, or from a disadvantaged background to enable them to undertake there Bronze Duke of Edinburgh's award through Keel boating.
We are keen to hear from interested parties who currently work regularly with groups of young people who are keen to undertake and can commit to the challenge offered. Based in an area of outstanding natural beauty in Chichester Harbour, we can offer ideal sailing experiences to all ages and abilities.
DofE activities can be life-changing, providing invaluable development and a recognised achievement that levels the playing field. Unfortunately sailing is perceived as a hard and expensive activity and very few participants take up the opportunity of completing their DofE skill or expeditions through sailing.
Working in partnership with schools and voluntary organisations in Hampshire, West Sussex and Portsmouth authorities Cobnor Activities Centre Trust wishes to change this and enable young people from Low Social-Economic Groups to access the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme through Keel boat sailing. Further information of the Bronze award can be found https://www.dofe.org/do/what/
We are interested to hear from teachers, youth workers and youth organisations who would like to join us in this venture. Please get in touch by visiting our website www.cobnor.com or by calling 01243 572791.
