In My View…Brexit challenges

Published 00:00 on 21 Jan 2018

2019 is going to bring about huge changes with Brexit and the opportunities as well as challenges that all businesses will face. It is critical in such a climate to foster good relationships with other businesses, after all, people buy people and honesty and transparency takes time to build.

This is where networking should be seen as an investment of your time to develop and build up new contacts. It doesn't happen overnight, so attending networking events regularly is a must if you want to become known and trusted within the local business community. There are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of in the local area with formal events, evening meetings, lunchtime meetings, breakfast clubs and after work informal social events.

Joining in conversations might seem daunting at first, but those who are more experienced are often very welcoming and you never know where conversations might lead. It's not about a hard sell, it's about listening and thinking outside of the box when engaging with other businesses. Start-ups and newer businesses might find that by chatting may lead to an 'eureka' moment and take you in a new direction that you hadn't considered until you realise there might be a gap in the market that you can fill.

If you work from home or alone, connectivity might get those creative juices flowing just by exchanging experiences and ideas and you will benefit from becoming part of a business support network with access to expertise in things like exporting, HR support, financial support and what grants may be available to you.

Chichester Chamber of Commerce and industry offer plenty of networking opportunities and there are other groups – a quick google search will enlighten you. Our members are real advocates of networking and have some interesting stories to tell about how it has increased their business opportunities through building those sustainable relationships. To find out more about what we an offer, do book to come along as a guest at www.chichestercci.org.uk– you never know what it might lead to!
