In the current climate, there has never been a more relevant time to take stock and re-evaluate career choices. No matter who, either as a potential apprentice or an employer, degree apprenticeships bring together the best of vocational training and higher education via practical 'on-the-job' learning. They provide a route to gain a degree whilst filling a skills gap in the employment market.

An apprenticeship is a genuine job that allows apprentices to work for their employer from day one in an area linked to their field of study. This dual aspect of working and learning helps apprentices become a valuable asset by developing key skills that employers want, turning theoretical learning into practical, innovative solutions straight away.

- 3. Cost effective learning
Apprentices will earn a salary whilst on the apprenticeship, including relevant holiday and sick pay. On the flipside, employers can access extra funds to cover the cost of the training through the Apprenticeship Levy or via a funding arrangement with the Education and Skills Funding Agency - ultimately allowing apprentices to study for a degree with no tuition fees or student debts. Furthermore, many apprentices go on to increase their salary both during or on completion of the apprenticeship.

The University has partnered with an array of organisations across the South of England, to deliver a variety of both undergraduate and postgraduate degree apprenticeships in engineering, digital marketing, social work, teaching, and business management. New areas of development in the pipeline include health and creative digital design.
Katherine Bray, a recent Digital and Technology Solutions Professional (Software Engineer) degree apprentice at SSE Energy found that "throughout college I was quite mature and I felt that I was ready for full time work. A degree apprenticeship meant I was equal with my peers who are going off to university as I would still get a degree but also be ahead of them because I would be getting 4 years work experience at the same time."
